24 Days of Turtle: Day 15 (Christmas Stocking)

This holiday season, Santa is coming to the sewers! 24 Days of Turtle is a countdown until Christmas guaranteed to make you merry. From December 1st through 24th, this advent calendar will shell out 24 different TMNT Holiday-themed treats. Each day will offer something new, something ninja.

DAY 15: CHRISTMAS STOCKING

Has anyone ever received coal in their stocking? As a kid, I didn't think it was a real thing. I assumed the rock was created specifically for the Christmas season - a myth to keep kids from being naughty. My parents constantly threatened me with fabled coal. Whenever I acted up or pushed their buttons, coal entered the conversation. Hearing the word was a like a warning shot. In fear, I'd backdown and obey their orders. I didn't want to find out if coal was fact or fiction.

I enjoyed life in my coal-free home. Each Christmas, my stocking was packed with small gifts and candies. Coal never reared its ugly head. I concluded the rock was a tall tale. But then one fateful holiday season, everything changed. In 1993, the mythical rock presented itself. Santa left coal in a Christmas stocking...

Luckily, the coal wasn't in my stocking. Santa still saw me as a good boy. But, my new dog, Cheerio? Well, after sinking his teeth into a TV remote, curtains, the door molding, and an entire sofa, the poor pooch was undoubtedly on the naughty list. On his first Christmas, Cheerio felt the wrath of coal.

The myth was dead. My world was turned upside down. Coal existed!

It's been 20 years since that debut appearance. Cheerio never received coal again. My streak of perfection still continues to this day. But, the daunting rock left its dark mark on me. Each Christmas, I apprehensively sift through my stocking - fingers crossed that coal will not be wedged in the tippy-toe.

What will I do if I ever get coal? Honestly, who cares? This TMNT stocking is a gift whether you're naughty or nice.

Make sure to return tomorrow for Day 16 of 24 Days of Turtle!

  1. The mythical coal is something I always feared, too. My parents told me the same thing, and it freaked me out. That's why I always tried my best in school, so that during the Christmas time, it paid off and I wouldn't get it. Thankfully, it did pay off.

You shouldn't worry if you find coal in that TMNT stocking, it's too nice to actually put something so foul in. However, if you do, I would say to throw the coal away and pretend like it never existed.

    1. Deny, deny, deny!

Let's hope Santa remembers our good behavior of 2013. We deserve some new TMNT treats!

  2. First - that stocking is kick ass. Second - I had a friend down the street from me who actually DID get coal for Christmas. He was 1 of 5 siblings and he was the only one who did that year. It was a pretty hard core move on his parents part. And let's just say he made sure to be good from then on.

Forgiveness is divine, but never pay full price for late pizza.
