"Turtles In Time" Exhibit at The Bottleneck Art Gallery

The Turtles have spent their existence living beneath the streets of NYC, under-appreciated and lurking in the shadows. But now, the green machines are finally rising from the sewers and into the spotlight. On Friday, The Bottleneck Art Gallery in Brooklyn, NY kicked off an exhibit celebrating 30 years of Turtle Power with "Turtles In Time."

Over the years, I have made many trips to The Bottleneck Art Gallery. Their events and work on display are unlike anything else in the Big Apple. It's an opportunity to attend a party, absorb the awesome artistry, and if you're lucky, take home affordable art (even my girlfriend has purchased 3 pieces from various shows). The magical space embraces nostalgia, grips your heart, and never lets go.

If these walls could talk…

If these walls could talk, the walls of The Sewer Den would be quite chatty. What would they say exactly? I like to think they'd be proud - going on and on about their extensive collection of Ninja Turtles-themed artwork. These walls would probably be eager to give history lessons on their artwork - spouting interesting anecdotes and heartwarming tales.

But alas, these walls cannot talk. Luckily, I do. So let me dive right into this collection of artwork. And to the walls of The Sewer Den, I know you cannot talk, but maybe you can read. So if you're reading this, I hope I am doing justice to all the awesome artwork you proudly display.

This issue is appropriate too. I mean, com'on, the Turtles were named after four, famous renaissance artists after all.

Issue 6: Land Of The Logos

ISSUE 6: LAND OF THE LOGOS

A slight change of pace here. Short, simple, and sweet. Nothing from The Sewer Den's collection, but some cool stuff to still keep your eyes happy.

Nickelodeon recently unleashed a few images from their upcoming Ninja Turtles television series that kicks off in 2012. Aside from getting a peak at what our favorite ninjas will be looking like this time around, we've also been treated to a new show logo. This is the fourth time the Turtles will be hitting the airwaves (well, actually cable this time around). The brothers have been in both cartoon and live-action form.

In honor of their new look, I thought it would be nice to pay our respects to the show logos of the past. We've seen them plenty of times, but what do they look like back to back?

2012 - ???

2008-2009

2003 - 2008

1997 - 1998

1987 - 1997

When all these logos are put together, they resemble one of those charts showcasing evolution. You can see where the Turtles have been and where they are going. Also, the logo for The Next Mutation is atrocious. I could've predicted that show was destine for failure back in '97 just by looking at that logo. But, I've got to hand it to Nickelodeon - they stayed close to the original (and 2003) television series logos. Do they value TMNT nostalgia too? Either way, my love for the 90's really digs that neon green text...

It's also worth pointing out Nickelodeon is keeping the Turtles as teenagers. In the spirit of re-inventing, they could have easily made them adults. But, The Next Mutation took that route and, well, it flopped.
