24 Days of Turtle: Day 12 (Wooden Ornaments)

This holiday season, Santa is coming to the sewers! 24 Days of Turtle is a countdown until Christmas guaranteed to make you merry. From December 1st through 24th, this advent calendar will shell out 24 different TMNT Holiday-themed treats. Each day will offer something new, something ninja.

December is a joyous time. Holiday spirit wisps around the world. Each year as I hang these Turtle ornaments, nostalgia burns as bright as a warming fire. Nothing but merry memories ring ting tingling in my mind…

But then, a Ghost of Christmas Past rears its ugly head. You’re presented with a piece of your history. A forgotten memory that knocks you on your shell.

This Michelangelo ornament haunts me. A Ghost of Christmas Past that reminds me of my childhood curiosity. There’s nothing wrong with a kid being inquisitive. Curiosity didn’t kill the cat here – it just ruined the Turtle.

Michelangelo’s Santa-equipped Jack In The Box was far too tempting. As a kid, I didn’t understand the point of that small spring. It sent the Santa head bobbing back and forth as it hung from our Christmas tree – enticing me, taunting me. My ninja-like patience failed. I maniacally plucked at the spring, stretching it to the limit. Now, I am left with this – a limp, lifeless Santa head.

My decision-making has no rhyme or reason. How have I saved so much of my TMNT collection, yet treated this one ornament with such abuse? The rest of this set is tiptop. Heck, the Raphael ornament isn’t even opened!

  1. These are cool, never seen them before. Little drummer Don and all.

  2. It does seem enticing, like it was just asking to to be plucked at 'till no end. I would've done it, you know how kids are when it comes to springs.

Nice collection. The amount of preservation in each of these ornaments are impeccable, they look they were just fresh out of the package (besides Michelangelo's, but, what can you do?). It's still a nice assortment of ornaments to have. Hang them up whenever you can!

    1. I still think the spring could be stretched even further...

Forgiveness is divine, but never pay full price for late pizza.
