Totally Tubular Treasures: 3D Mug

TOTALLY TUBULAR TREASURES: 3D MUG

When the Turtles returned to television, I wrote a wish list. A grand lineup covering all my dreams and desires that I hoped Nickelodeon would achieve with the new series.

One of my requests was the creation of a legitimate coffee mug. No paper or plastic, something fun and brimming with Turtle Power. I wanted the real deal. A mug for us old school TMNT fans who have mutated into coffee-guzzling adults.

On October 27, 2013, I hit a birthday milestone - 30 years old. It's been almost 6 month since the landmark occasion. Boy, it hasn't been easy, but I'm finally adjusting to life beyond my 20's.

Getting older is a tough pill to swallow, but much easier when you're treated to great birthday gifts. My girlfriend, Jessica, came to my rescue as I transitioned from 29 to 30.

No matter what you do in life, always have a perfect bed and a comfortable pair of shoes, because when you’re not in one, you’re in the other.” This quote from my film, Sneakers & Soul, is a life lesson no one should ignore. Plus, sneakers are cool!

Jessica combined my love for sneakers, my passion for filmmaking, and my dedication to The Sewer Den and delivered the ultimate birthday gift - a pair of custom designed Nike sneakers.

New York Comic Con is an awesome experience, but overwhelming too. Navigating through the onslaught of people can be exhausting. The endless lines at panel doors and autograph booths make your feet hurt. But when you're favorite franchise of all time is at the event, every second of possible agony is worth it.

For me, this was clearly the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles booth. Nickelodeon pulled no punches in setting up an eye-popping environment. I mean, there's a huge sewer lid hanging from the ceiling! The perfect photo op for any fan.

The booth also offered a contest to win action figures from the past and present. Pretty simple to enter - snap a pic of any toy, tweet the photo using the action figure's hashtag, and include Nickelodeon's official TMNT Twitter account (@TMNTMaster). That's it. Keepin' it simple in the sewer.

EDITOR'S NOTE: This column showcases my random discoveries of TMNT merchandise. Despite the extensive collection from my childhood, I still find myself making Turtle purchases as an adult. Totally Tubular Treasures highlights just that.

The Turtles live in the sewers of New York City. It's a place they've called home for over 3 decades. Although I've been alive for about the same length of time, I have had many more homes. Once I went off to college, my life turned into a game of residential leap frog - bouncing from one spot to the next. I have lived in 11 places in the span of 12 years. Not to mention I've been on 3 road trips that total half a year.

Point is, I'm a nomad. I enjoy a fresh surrounding. This past December, I found myself in new home once again - back in the Big Apple. Learning a new environment and exploring the terrain is a blast. However, my roaming lifestyle prevents me from throwing a rockin' housewarming party. I simply shift around too much for anything to ever seem official. And when there's no house party, no housewarming gifts.

The Sewer Den has treated me to a lot of interesting experiences. Through this blog, I have ventured into many uncharted waters. From the wacky events, to the cool people I've met along the way, the stories I write always keep me hooked. A pair of TMNT underwear might not mean much to some, but to us Turtle fans? It's everything.

Another awesome experience recently arrived on my doorstep. The Sewer Den gets the occasional eBay package, but nothing marked quite like this. Hand-written and full of promise, this small box brought huge anticipation.

Life in New York City is very different than the rest of America. Most people don't drive. You own apartments, not houses. But, most importantly, there isn't a Wal-Mart. While the rest of the country has the opportunity to purchase hoards of merchandise at cheaper prices, us city folks are forced to pay top dollar for the same junk.

New York City. It really is a melting pot. So many people, so much culture. Every day there is something new brewing in this concrete jungle - an event at every turn. But, after almost a decade of residing here, there's one occasion I always seem to miss...

Totally Tubular Treasures: A New Column, A New Frontier

Welcome to a new column of The Sewer Den! This freshly-launched section will showcase my random discoveries of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles merchandise. Despite the extensive amount of items collected in my childhood, I find myself making Turtle-themed purchases in my adult life as well. Totally Tubular Treasures will highlight just that.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of visiting my Mom for Mother's Day. Along with a trip to see my parents, I got to spend some quality time in The Sewer Den. As the room overall comes closer and closer to completion, I can't help but want to add some new things to the collection...
