24 Days of Turtle: Day 6 (Unopened Raphael Ornament)

This holiday season, Santa is coming to the sewers! 24 Days of Turtle is a countdown until Christmas guaranteed to make you merry. From December 1st through 24th, this advent calendar will shell out 24 different TMNT Holiday-themed treats. Each day will offer something new, something ninja.

DAY 6:
UNOPENED RAPHAEL ORNAMENT

When I am presented with new TMNT treasures, I tear apart the packaging like a kid on Christmas. Many collectors battle this urge and resist cracking open their hoard for the sake of value. Keeping your collection unopened is simply worth more money.

Forget mint condition, I value the rush of feeling like a kid again. But, somehow The Sewer Den still has a handful of rare, unopened artifacts. Honestly, I have no idea how these items have remained untouched in their original packaging over the years. Although I open most of my Turtle toys, I still appreciate the effort and design that goes into the packaging. And here on Day 6 of 24 Days of Turtle, I’ve got a festive find to show off.

From the classic cartoon, Raphael brings his brand of holiday cheer to your Christmas tree. The packaging isn’t much, but its age alone makes it cool. Hang this ornament up in a bar, cause it’s old enough to drink.

How is this ornament still unopened? Where did I find the ninja-like patience?

Well, it is a Christmas decoration, not the Technodrome playset. With an ornament, you hang it on the tree and the party’s over. There are no storylines or points of articulation to make a child's imagination go wild. But, as a Turtle-crazed adult? I love it!

I am a kid on Christmas.

Make sure to return tomorrow for Day 7 of 24 Days of Turtle!

  1. I don't ever blame you for wanting to tear into anything during Christmas time, especially when it's turtle-related. Then, I have to fight myself of whether to open it or leave it alone. Usually opening it wins.

As for this, it's clearly something nice to hang up! But, risking losing most of the value is always troublesome, but it would just be nice to hang up anywhere. A nice artifact from the the original TMNT merchandise for sure.

    1. It's an ongoing dilemma for me. I always say on a rainy day, I'm going to tear into all the unopened stuff. I should have a TMNT toy opening party!

    2. lol It's certainly for all of us turtle fans. It's just that these merchandise are so precious to us, and we never want to ruin the original packing.

If you do have an opening party, make sure to take it out of the packing carefully! Even if it's out, the original back is still valuable.

Forgiveness is divine, but never pay full price for late pizza.
