24 Days of Turtle (2014): Day 22 (Pull-String Ornaments)

Welcome to the 2014 edition of 24 Days of Turtle. The awesome advent calendar features daily TMNT Christmas-themed treasures. There will be festive fun, gracious gifts, and Turtle Powered prizes!

Inching closer to Christmas on DAY 22 of the countdown.

PULL-STRING ORNAMENTS
(1990)

In the toy collecting community, there is a debate. Do you remove the item from its packaging or keep it unopened? Leaving it unharmed keeps the value high, but diminishes the enjoyment. Tearing it open diminishes the value, but increases the fun. Ah, what a predicament!

To complicate things further, the package design itself can be a deciding factor. Sometimes it's so incredibly cool you just can't bring yourself to destroy it. That's what has happened to me with the TMNT pull-string ornaments.

I usually enjoy the rush of cracking a toy open and feeling instant gratification. But, I can't bring myself to do it with the pull-string ornaments.

It's a major bummer too! These ornaments are interactive and provide more entertainment than other TMNT decorations hanging from my tree. The packaging isn't especially intricate, but there is an allure that has charmed and won me over.

The cardboard Christmas ball-shaped design makes me merry. Without even opening these ornaments, you could still display them on your tree. It might be unconventional, and let's face it, a little weird, but it is possible. The silly concept has me in a trance - preventing me from dismantling the cardboard balls like a spell cast over me.

Leonardo and Raphael are the only two in my collection. I'd love to have all 4 Turtles, but finding these boys unopened hasn't happened just yet.

Does Santa deliver unopened gifts from the 90s?

Each day of 24 Days of Turtle will feature a Turtle-Powered present.

It's Monday. Christmas is right around the corner. It's like music to your ears. Today's gift is actual music for your ears - the entire We Wish You A Turtle Christmas video in mp3 form. This saves you from the painful experience of watching this atrocious program.

If you've never listened to this before, you're in for an experience...

Check back tomorrow for DAY 23 of 24 Days of Turtle for more festive fun, gracious gifts, and possible prizes! Until then, stay jolly, dudes & dudettes!

Forgiveness is divine, but never pay full price for late pizza.
