Cowabunga Christmas: Day 22 (Gift Boxes)

Welcome to Cowabunga Christmas - the 2015 edition of 24 Days of Turtle. From December 1st through 24th, the Turtle Powered advent calendar will feature daily holiday-themed treasures from every era of TMNT.

Let the countdown 'til Christmas continue with DAY 22!

It is better to give than to receive. The person who said that must've have a collection of TMNT gift boxes. Giving is much more fun when you put these things under the tree. Even a lousy pair of socks seem like a gracious gift when buried inside these boxes.

Released in Christmas of 1989, the glorious pieces of cardboard are classic. A 26 year old paper product doesn't sound so glorious, but for longtime TMNT junkies, it's very alluring. Each aged box boasts festive artwork oozing with holiday spirit. Classy wreaths and decorative holly bring panache to our sewer-dwelling heroes. Michelangelo, however, looks oddly seductive. Maybe he had one egg nog too many...

Do the TMNT Gift Boxes make a good gift?

Although the boxes are meant to hold gifts, they really are a gift themselves. Imagine opening one to discover a TMNT toy inside? That's like winning the lottery - twice! Too bad these boxes aren't available in stores anymore. I'd love to see them re-released, so then I could horde hundreds instead of just two. Maybe I'll ask Santa if that's something he can do...

Check back tomorrow for DAY 23 of Cowabunga Christmas! Can't wait until then? Take a trip with the Ghost from Christmas Past to see what The Sewer Den put on display on December 22nd in 2013 and 2014.
