Cowabunga Christmas: Day 15 (Faux Broken Ornaments)

Welcome to Cowabunga Christmas - the 2015 edition of 24 Days of Turtle. From December 1st through 24th, the Turtle Powered advent calendar will feature daily holiday-themed treasures from every era of TMNT.

Let the countdown 'til Christmas continue with DAY 15!

For decades, companies have been flooding the market with holiday decorations. Creating an original, unique ornament is no easy task for manufactures. That's why when originality hits the market, you're forced to take notice. No, TMNT ornaments aren't original by any means. They've been coming out in waves since the 80s. But, it looks like this year, over 25 years later, someone finally tried something new. It might not be the best, but the style and design are hard to ignore.

"Faux broken ornaments" - is that a real product description? I'm going to say yes, but mostly because I made up the classification. Each mutant is perched on his own color-coordinated "broken" Christmas ball. I guess this gimmick is suppose to make the Turtles look tough & fierce. But really, it just makes them look like clumsy jokesters. Breaking Christmas balls? That's no ninja move. It's more like a scene from Home Alone.

Do the Faux Broken Ornaments make a good Christmas gift?

While I appreciate the originality of these ornaments, I'm still uncertain if they're a winner. The "broken" effect is an odd choice, a mental hurdle I can't seem to get over. Who wants busted decorations on their tree? If we start putting up broken ornaments, what's next? Worn shoes? Used napkins? Pizza crust?! For the sake of future generations, I'm tempted to keep these ninjas off my tree. But if you're feeling a weird mix of mischievous and merry, these dudes might be for you.

Check back tomorrow for DAY 16 of Cowabunga Christmas! Can't wait until then? Take a trip with the Ghost from Christmas Past to see what The Sewer Den put on display on December 15th in 2013 and 2014.
