Rare Junk: TMHT Bath Kit

* Rare Junk is dedicated to those unintentional, yet completely outlandish discoveries - ultra-rare TMNT items that you’ve never seen listed on eBay or at your local toy show. No action figures, only bizarre merchandise that decades ago found its way into existence. *

There’s gold. And then there’s garbage. Which side does a 30-year old bath set belong?

This Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles bath set is the definition of rare junk. It’s a unique rarity that I’ve never seen beyond this one. It holds a special quality that keeps me in awe, but also begs the question "why do I have this?!" It shouldn’t still exist after all these years, but it here it is. And with the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles naming, that means it's straight from Europe. Imported rare junk!

My extensive collection houses lots of rare finds that fetch a pretty penny. I’m doubtful this is a money-maker. Despite its uncommon uniqueness, the market for vintage bath products isn’t as demanding as action figures and toys. Too bad! That seems like a fun, cutthroat collecting world I want to be a part of.

Rare Junk: Tissue Box

Rare Junk is dedicated to those unintentional, yet completely outlandish discoveries - ultra-rare TMNT items that you’ve never seen listed on eBay or at your local toy show. No action figures, only bizarre merchandise that decades ago found its way to store shelves all across the world.

Boogers! Or at least that’s what this one is intended for. This is just your basic tissue box, but my, oh my is the artwork is a thing of beauty. It reminds me of a box of cereal, with eye candy occupying every space of the package. Heroes and villains are on display, giving you visual joy every time you blow your schnoz.

ISSUE 32: COWABUNGA CLEAN

Bathrooms are boring. From place to place, the space doesn't vary much in terms of decor. Bed, Bath, and Beyond can only spruce up your water closet so much. But have no fear, The Sewer Den will roundhouse kick some cool into your bathroom with TMNT accessories.

As we all know, the Ninja Turtles phenomenon took the world by storm back in the late 80's. They conquered the toy market, had a clothing line, and even found themselves in grocery stores. Why not hit the bathroom? I previously showcased a heap of TMNT cleansing gear, but couldn't resist returning to my arsenal. These items may be dusty, but they're sure to keep you squeaky clean!

Issue 5: Where's The Bathroom?

ISSUE 5: WHERE'S THE BATHROOM?

In the summer of 2010, I ventured off on a cross country road trip with my buddy, Frank. The journey lasted an incredible six weeks - where we camped in most of the states this country has to offer. When you cover that much ground, you're bound to stumble upon a few roadside attractions. Most of the time these places are the ones you've heard about your entire life - like Mount Rushmore, Four Corners, etc.

But, then you'll stumble upon a place that is off the beaten path. Unique, fun, and even weird (I'm talking to you Corn Palace in South Dakota!) Although bizarre, these places inspired me to some degree. I found myself appreciating whatever thought process spawned such extraordinary creations. Fred Smith's Wisconsin Concrete Park, South Dakota's Corn Palace, Pennsylvania's Shoe House - these places are hilariously brilliant.

Roadside attractions are fun. You can only smile and laugh. From their silliness and originality, I was inspired to create The Sewer Den. When this Ninja Turtle collection-filled room is complete, I'd love to open it up to the masses of America to come and scope out. I hope they would find the same appreciation I found on my road trip.

So, that's the goal. Turn The Sewer Den into an awesome roadside attraction. My parents live in Cape May, NJ - which is a pretty stellar beach town and destination hot spot in the summer. So as crazy as it sounds, this whole idea is actually plausible.

Say when The Sewer Den opens, people actually start to visit. I've got to make sure I can accommodate these folks. What if they need to use the bathroom? The room has a million Ninja Turtles items, but no bathroom. BUT, I did dig up a little collection of Ninja Turtle Bathroom Accessories!
